The young lady swallowed hard and looked at the mass of tangled hair now on her comb. She run the comb again through her hair which pulled out an even bigger mass of weak broken hair. She purposed not to cry. She had just removed her box braids. When she had them done three weeks before, they were beautiful and elicited a lot of compliments. But now, after taking them out with all the care she knew, the results were weak broken hair. She had braided her hair before, so she did not understand why it was now breaking. But then, everything in her life seemed to be breaking. Her heart. Her life. Her relationships. And now her hair.

At one point, we belonged to this world, doing whatever we desired to do with our lives. Our mindsets were shaped by the world. Ephesians 5:8 says that “for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light”.
As Christian women, and daughters of the Most High God, we are not immune to the pressure the world puts on us to look, dress and act a certain way. Indeed, the battle is fierce. Paul told the Romans not to “be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect” Romans 12:2.
