The Oxford dictionary defines discouragement as “A loss of confidence or enthusiasm; dispiritedness.” I could not agree more. For the believer, it’s that feeling when everything feels grey and dull. God feels far away. Satan bombards our minds with thoughts such as – you are doing badly with your walk with God. You have hidden sin. God is mad at you. Why bother to pray, read your Bible or go to church- it makes no difference. God will not help you. This is your fault. Satan’s arrows at first may be subtle, but if we pay attention, the voices get louder and more condemning, drowning the voice of the God who loves us.
One of the biggest lies that needs to be exposed about discouragement is that IT IS NOT FROM GOD. The Lord already says in the Bible that He is for us (Rom 8:31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? Rom 8:33 Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.)
