“Fulfilled.”

I prayed in those last few weeks of 2015 over my “one word” for 2016.  It’s not a prophecy or a magic trick.  It’s just a way to quiet the noise and ask God what He wants to do in the new year.  How can I join Him?  How can I prepare my heart for His intentions?

While I knew the idea of what I wanted, I couldn’t find that One Word to pull it all together

I wanted it to be about seeing God complete His work.  He’s stirred my heart in new directions, turned over soil, planted new seeds.  He’s closed doors and asked me to step down from long-term commitments.  He’s begun the work, and now I long to see the fulfilment of His promises, His plans, and the desires He’s placed on my heart.

Completion.  Fruition.  Harvest.

But there’s more.

I want to be fulfilled in Him…

While at Walmart last week I turned down the canned food aisle and up ahead I saw a woman pushing her cart with an adorable baby sitting in the front seat of the buggy.  I didn’t give it a second thought until our three-year-old foster princess asked me her second favorite question… “Why she got a baby?”  Just like the other 156 times she has asked me this question while seeing another woman with a baby, I didn’t have an answer to give her.  None of the ones I have ever come up with sit well with me, so I just shrugged my shoulders and continued looking for the canned beans.  I could tell as she turned her head to the side and scrunched up her eyebrows that she wasn’t satisfied with my answer.  Thankfully she didn’t push the question.  Instead she just followed it up with another question–“Whatcha…

Several months ago, the Lord said to me, “Let the Word of God speak for you.” At the time, it wasn’t clear to me exactly how to apply it, but He has continued to remind me of that word and to give me understanding of it.

Here are some ways He is showing me to live it out:

1.)  I let the word of God speak for me in prayer. Reading the Bible consistently and becoming familiar with it is a good thing! But we can get to a place where we know the principles in it so well that we pray from our knowledge of what it says without actually praying specific verses to press our point. We paraphrase the Word in our prayers — sometimes quite loosely.
